What is tax residence?

Tax residency refers to a person’s or entity’s tax residency status, which determines the country in which they have to pay tax. Depending on the law of each country, this type of residence may depend on a number of factors, including the length of stay, the location of sources of income or the economic and personal, family or economic ties to a particular country.

Types of residence

Long-term tax residency: if you live in a country for more than 183 days a year, you can usually apply for tax residency of that country.

Short-term tax residency: some countries allow short-term tax residency under international agreements.
